What the switch does

It tells us, and it tells Shopify — who run our checkout — not to sell your personal information and not to share it for targeted advertising. The choice is recorded in this browser and sent to Shopify, so it carries from these pages into checkout rather than stopping at the hand-off.

It does not switch off the things that make the shop work: your basket, the hand-off to shop.skiscraper.net when you buy something, and the record of this choice itself. It also leaves our own count of which pages get read, which is not a sale, not a share, and not something any US state law gives you a right to refuse.

It applies to this browser on this device. We have no account system, so there is nothing to attach the choice to but the browser it was made in — if you use Ski Scraper on a phone and a laptop, throw it on both.

Global Privacy Control

If your browser or an extension sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as this switch already thrown, on every page, before you find this one. You do not have to come here at all. The switch above shows as on and locked when we can see the signal.

Honouring it is not optional in a growing number of states, and it is the right default everywhere: a preference somebody set once in their browser should not have to be re-entered on every shop they visit. We honour it for every visitor rather than for residents of the states that require it, because checking which state you are in would mean collecting more about you in order to respect you less.

The rest of your rights

Around twenty US states now have a comprehensive consumer privacy law, and the list grows most years. Rather than work out which one applies to you — which would mean establishing where you live before we would answer — we offer the same rights to everybody in the United States:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
• Ask us to correct it if it is wrong.
• Ask us to delete it. We will, unless we are keeping something to complete an order, honour a warranty claim or satisfy a tax record we are required to keep — in which case we will tell you which, and for how long.
• Opt out of sale and of targeted advertising — the switch above.
• Be treated no differently for asking. No worse price, no withheld product, no slower delivery.

Write to privacy@skiscraper.example and a person will answer. We aim to reply within 45 days, which is the deadline most of these laws set. If we turn a request down we will say why, and you can write back and tell us we got it wrong — that appeal is a right in most of these states and a courtesy in the rest.

You may use an authorised agent. We will ask for something showing you gave them permission, and we may ask you to confirm it directly, because the alternative is handing your order history to whoever asks first.
